What is OEM Glass?

An OEM glass will be identical to the original, factory installed glass that came with your car when it was brand new. These may not necessarily be manufactured by the company who made the glass originally installed on your car, but they are nearly identical in every way. This glass is manufactured according to your car maker’s very specific regulations, and will match your original in size, shape, and color. It’s important to note that these are also certified by the Department of Transportation, so you can be assured of their safety. All OEM distributors contract with one or more of the various car manufacturer's, and that's what qualifies them as an Original Equipment Manufacturer.

What is Aftermarket Glass?

Aftermarket glass is manufactured by auto glass companies who don’t contract with specific auto makers. Since these companies are not manufacturing OEM glass under contract for the auto manufacturer, they don’t have to abide by specific manufacturer guidelines. In fact, due to copyright laws, auto glass companies are actually prohibited from producing glass that is identical to the factory-installed versions.

1996-2002 Toyota 4 Runner right rear quarter glass.

Just want everyone to know that your OEM quarter glass fit perfectly on our 2002 classic 4 runner. I was able to install the glass myself. We purchased our 4 runner new and we are very particular about our classic. Toyota dealerships were out of stock and the local installers did not have a glass that was encapsulated with the bonded encapsulated gasket. I appreciate Kool Katz auto glass having this in stock at a great price. I will avoid the Toyota dealership in the future for any other glass needs and will inform anyone that needs glass to contact them. Also the shipping packaging was second to none. Heavy duty box and the glass was well protected with foam. I would given them a 10 star rating if it was available. Thanks Kook Katz for what you do for us in need.
